This innovative reduction sleeve features a special anti-pullout system that prevents cutting tools from slipping out of the toolholder.

The PG Straight Collet is a go-to solution to overcome the typical issues of machining hard and exotic materials, such as superalloys, at high speeds in aerospace applications. Its anti-pullout system means shops can machine with 100% pullout safety. The PG Straight Collet also provides excellent stability against chatter.

“Pullout makes workpieces go out of tolerance, and with expensive parts that can be extremely costly,” said Giampaolo Roccatello, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for Europe at BIG KAISER. “With the PG Straight Collet, the cutter is held in the tool with the key grip, so that it is not only held by force and friction, but also by form closure.”

Machining superalloys is particularly challenging due to their exceptional strength and hardness, which make the process demanding, while their high melting points lead to accelerated tool wear and thermal deformation. Furthermore, superalloys tend to harden during the machining process, increasing cutting forces and causing rougher surfaces. The combination of these difficulties, along with the necessity for precise tolerances and fine surface finishes, calls for advanced machining methods and the use of specialized cutting tools.

The PG Straight collet is designed to work in combination with two toolholders: the MEGA Double Power Chuck Type D (MEGA20D/20DS) and the Hi-Power Milling Chuck Type S (HMC20/20S) with 40 taper interface, HSK-A63, BIG CAPTO C6 or bigger. It is ideal for use with materials that might be needed in aerospace applications including Inconel, large aluminum parts and titanium, ensuring the best runout in class.

To enhance performance, the PG Straight Collet incorporates an efficient peripheral coolant supply. "Efficient coolant supply is key to success with such exotic materials, but it is often overlooked during tool design," adds Roccatello. " We prioritized this feature from the outset to ensure optimal performance."

BIG KAISER is also introducing a new sealing bush (CPG-SB) for the PG Straight Collet, enabling efficient coolant delivery through the cutting tool. Together, these features make the PG Straight Collet a top choice for dynamic end milling applications, ensuring rigidity, stability, concentricity, and flexibility.

To simplify operations, the PG Straight Collet is compatible with standard endmills. Installation is straightforward: the collet screws into the holder, the machinist mounts the Weldon tool with the key grip plate and a spring, tensions the toolholder, and it’s ready to go.
