They are part of BIG DAISHOWA’s MEGA Synchro system—a modular, high-performance range of holders and adjusters that reduce force peaks and improve process stability during tapping operations.

 

Tapping is one of the most sensitive finishing operations in metalworking. Even minor deviations in feed synchronization or alignment can cause significant thrust and reverse forces, leading to broken taps, poor thread quality, and scrapped parts. These problems are amplified in high-volume production, where consistent thread quality is critical and manual reworking is not feasible.

 

Designed for real-world conditions
Unlike traditional tapping systems that rely on complex internal mechanisms, BIG DAISHOWA’s solution is elegantly simple, modular, and cost-effective, with the capability to reduce the problematic forces in tapping. It is suitable for all modern CNC machines with synchronized spindles and can replace less efficient collet chuck solutions, particularly when combined with the adjuster.

Precision performance for every thread size
The MEGA Synchro holder series directly addresses the challenges of tapping, combining modularity, precision, and coolant-optimized design. The series consists of three sub-families:

• MGT3: a compact monobloc type for thread sizes up to M3, available across all machine interfaces.
• MGT6/12/20: a modular system with 50 basic holders and 180 extension adapters, covering lengths up to 200 mm in sizes from M3 to M20.
• MGT36: designed for large taps from M20 to M36, with 30 extension types and a basic holder per appropriate machine interface size.

All models have a slim design and are optimized for machines with synchronized spindles and support generous internal coolant flow—key for chip evacuation and tool life in deep tapping applications.

 

Introducing Synchro Adjusters: flexible protection for tapping tools
New to the MEGA Synchro lineup are BIG DAISHOWA’s Synchro Adjusters. These compact add-on units are positioned between the basic holder and the tap holder, introducing a calculated degree of axial flexibility into the system. By absorbing the thrust and reverse force peaks that occur during tap entry and retraction, Synchro Adjusters significantly reduce tool breakage and improve thread quality—particularly in tight-tolerance holes and difficult-to-machine materials.

 

Two types of adjusters are available:

• Soft type: the most flexible, ideal for general tapping and maximum protection of tap and workpiece, to deliver the best thread quality in the tap.
• Hard type: for use with eccentric relief taps, where flexibility must be minimized.

 

Together with the MEGA Synchro holders, this system delivers proven reduction in force peaks and smoother tapping performance across all thread sizes and materials.
